Karnataka government had arrested unlawfully, the editor of karavali ale , a kannada eveninger of coastal Karnataka and his wife on night of march 3rd. State government and sangh parivaar jointly harassing press couple by not allowing to get, even, bail so far. Earlier to this their press and residence are attacked by sangh parivaar and damaged the printing and other property. Hands behind these acts were not yet even brought under the law . These acts are totally against to the principles of the so called democracy,freedom of expression and right to information, those whatever ruling classes projecting. These acts exposes once again, the real essence of those much propagated democratic norms and principles. We strongly condemns these undemocratic acts and violation of freedom of press and expression,violation of human rights etc of the fascist JDS-BJP government .
We are insisting immediate release of the press couple. We are demanding to bring those police officials, who are responsible for these anti democratic acts- under punishment. These are all the attempts of further fascisicing the administration and curbing the people’s voice and struggle. Denying the minimum democratic rights . This was experienced in the masterminding and implementation of communal attacks on religious minorities in dakshina kannada, few months back.. The administrative and suppressive bodies like district administration and state police directly joined their hands with sangh parivaar ,ignored administrative and democratic norms and inflicted losses of both human and property to the minorities by loot,arson and killing. These are all heinous crime on humanity perpetrated by state itself.
Recent days these type of attacks are rising alarmingly. Police and administration are trying to mend dissent voices and struggle, according to their norms and wishes. They are directing what to speak , what not to, what to write, what not to,how to conduct struggles and rallies etc and trying to impose those on people and democrats. For this they are adopting all anti people and fascist methods like threatening, harassing,torturing, imposing false cases, stage managing the complaints ,clashes,attacks, killing,using colonial laws etc.
At the same time those acts of law does not applies to sangh parivaar,who are crudely propagating communal hatredness,religious discrimination and caste oppression and also organizing attacks on humanity.
Jainism which emerged through fighting against basically feudal violence and brahminical sanathana dharma, showing intolerance towards freedom of expression and mutual discussion.(samvaada) is not correct and principled one, as through that Jainism got existence.
All pro people and pro democratic organizations , individuals should condemn and protest these type of fascist acts of government and communal forces, as their duty.Otherwise the same will be the their fate in future.

Whatever contributes to assimilating people to Nature is a dangerous threat… At least that has been the lesson, of any discernible reading of the history of humankind. Here too, in the South Asian sub-continent, the experiences of the vast sections of the people have not been an exception. Specifically, after the advent of British colonialism…
Post-1947, there has hardly been any difference in the experiences of the people of the sub-continent. "If you are to suffer, you should suffer in the interest of our country", this was what Jawaharlal Nehru asked the villagers, while laying the foundation stone of the Hirakud dam in Sambalpur, Orissa. Hirakud, or the dam at Bhakra, Nehru termed these 'temples of modern India'. Ever since then, through the years of the so-called 'green revolution', canal irrigation cultivation, introduction of cash crops and hybrid variety of seeds we have daily proof that we create our world against Nature for want of profit. That people are forced to be the mute recipients of this expropriation of wealth in the name of development; of creating a new world out of Nature that is useful for a few rich and powerful. Even the most conservative estimate of the Government of India in 1994, after lot of jugglery with statistics, had to admit that more than 10 million (1 crore) people are still to be rehabilitated displaced by dams, mines, deforestation and other 'development projects'.
Today this logic of creating a world against Nature have taken the most aggressive turn; voluminous in its scope of exploitation and destruction; murderous in its reach in that it ravages the lives and livelihoods of lakhs and lakhs of peoples. The tall claims of Special Economic Zones as havens of employment generation and productivity with legal provisions totally different from the law of the land is further evidence of recolonisation of the land and its people for brutal exploitation of imperialist and local capital. The innumerous Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) that are being signed by the GoI with various monopolies for mining in Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand are open invitations to loot and plunder the natural resources for the predatory needs of the market.
The grand design to construct mega-dams in hundreds across the sub-continent so as to generate power to sell it to the far-east market and massive super highways to access every nook and cranny of the region to the reach of big capital will without fail ravage various cultures, memories, lives and livelihoods of these peoples. Not to say, this package to loot and plunder the wealth of these regions will pit the various peoples in this region against each other.
Big labour, big industry and big capital have forced the people of the sub-continent to adjust and be assimilated in accordance to its needs. These experiences legitimized with it a history of exploitation, of domination, of considering human beings as 'human resources'. Significantly, the use of the word 'human resources' confirms the dangerous threat of forcing people to comply with the needs of imperialism and its domestic lackeys. The poorest and the most vulnerable become easy targets. The tribal whether in Orissa, Jharkhand, Arunachal or Meghalaya and the worker in the small scale sector in Delhi, Mumbai or Calcutta, the landless agricultural labourer in Haryana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh or Andhra Pradesh and even the small and middle peasant in Punjab, Haryana, Vidharbha and Andhra Pradesh all are classified, registered alongside the mineral, vegetal and animal resources. Mind you, people so designated are not the aim of production, but its raw material.
From Polavaram to Tipaimukh, from Nandigram, Singur Shalgoni, Dadri to Vidharbha, from Kalinganagar, Kashipur to Chhattisgarh and North Andhra and Telengana and Karnataka this language is not deceptive: as we all know, resources are to be exploited, and in our world they are bound to be destroyed. The struggle has increasingly become between two worlds in opposition: that of the world of the greatest number of people labeled as 'natural resources' and the world of those who treat them as such.
The reckoning of the hour is to forge an uncompromising resistance at the ground level while building a massive public opinion against this politics of loot and plunder in the name of development. At the South Asian and international level. It is important and inevitable that the resistance be forged at as many levels as possible. As you may know, a process towards building a mighty resistance against these displacements under the garb of 'development' has been initiated. The first preparatory meeting was at Ranchi, in Jharkhand on the 20, 21 st of January 2007. Over 100 organizations and individuals are part of this process to build a massive people's resistance against all forms of displacement at the South Asian level.
The first conference of this Anti-Displacement Front will be on the 22nd, 23rd of March 2007 at Ranchi, Jharkhand. We invite you to be part of and hence strengthen this process.

(The following is a press Note released in a Press Conference on 21st Jan 2007 soon after the Anti- Displacement Conclave in Ranchi, Jharkhand attended by scores of organisations from several states)
No Displacement; No Rehabilitation; Only People’s Development
Today the vast sections of the people have been subjected to the worst kind of socio-economic crisis in the name of development. Today more and more tribals, dalits, minorities and the poorest of the poor are brutally removed from their forests, fields, lands, homes and cultures. They are being evicted in thousands from their lives and livelihoods. The powerful imperialist forces and their lackeys in the sub-continent are on their bid to capture the natural resources and perpetrate ruthless exploitation of labour. The people are rendered defenceless in the process of the dreaded Ds--Displacement, Disorganisation, Destitution and Decimation.
It is at a time that the need to unite and bring together all the fighting forces at the ground level against all forms of displacement under a single platform was mooted. And hence this preparatory meeting being held in Ranchi on the 20, 2tst of January, 2007. In this meeting, representatives of organizations and individuals from various states such as Jharkhand, Bengal, Haryana, Orissa, Delhi, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh deliberated on the strategies to carry forward the movement against displacement at the sub-continent level. ‘No to Displacement in any form’, was the firm resolve of the Meet.
The loot of the Indian people started after the advent of British rule with the super-imposition of the principle of Eminent Domain that virtually extinguished the natural right of the communities over their habitat and livelihood. This imperialist paradigm continued even post-1947 and despite the adoption of a new constitution. The special provisions for recognition and honouring the tribal people’s right under the constitution has been blatantly ignored that has sharpened the resentment of the people against the exploitative state.
After the creation of the new states of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand at the instance of the imperialists this loot of the resources of the people has been facilitated under the new regime of globalization and liberalization. The surfeit of MOUs running over millions and millions of dollars has been executed without taking the people into confidence. The Anti-displacement meet rejected this development with disdain it deserves in the spirit of Tana Bhagat’s Resolve against the British authority—“Land is created by God, We are God’s children, Pray, from where has the state appeared?” The Anti- Displacement Meet in Ranchi called on the people to defend their habitat and their livelihood resources against the imperialists and the servile state.
While farmers who are committing suicide with agriculture being rendered increasingly non-viable, Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are being set up throughout the country as ‘deemed foreign territories.’ These are devices to divert people’s attention as the logic of a more brutalized expropriation of the rural economy is ruthlessly unfolding. The Anti-Displacement Meet called for the rejection of the National Agricultural Policy 2000 that has once again ignored the land reforms agenda and unabashedly embraced the corporatisation of agriculture.
The Anti-Displacement Meet rejected the entire scheme of Displacement-Rehabilitation. Rehabilitation is an illusion that is used to co-opt the top-ten by the imperialists. Even the affected people of Bhakhra, the ‘first temple of modern India’ still awaits for their much-promised rehabilitation.
Extensive lands in Hatia and Rourkela had already been acquired that are without use. Let the State first place before the people the status of the already affected whose number runs into crores. Hisab Do (Give Account) is the call to the state before it decides to take even an inch of land that is the inheritance of the people. Let the state prepare ‘Rehabilitation Plans’ for these people and come clean with concrete results. For the people of India, the story Post-1947 can be summed up as ‘an unbroken history of broken promises, dysfunctional programmes and blatant violation of laws, constitution and human rights.’
Dr. BD Sharma (Bharat Jan Andolan_, KN Pandit (Trade union leader), B P Kesari (Jharkhand Vistapan Virodhi Samanwyaya Samiti Co-ordinator), Shashi Bhushan Pathak (Civil Rights Activist), D Barla (Journalist & Anti-displacement Activist), Rashmi Kathyayan (Advocate), Tridib Ghosh, and several others from various orgnisations participated in the discussion of the draft note on displacement. Earlier GN Saibaba (Revolutionary Democratic Front) presented the concept note on displacement that was to set the debate regarding the strategies to be undertaken in fighting the complex and challenging question of displacement that is affecting various sections and peoples of the sub-continent.
Around 100 organisations from different parts of the country and various intellectuals have expressed their consent to actively be part of the Movement against Displacement. These include organizations from Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, the North East, Haryana, Kerala and Delhi.
The Anti-Displacement Meet while stressing the need to bring all the struggling organizations and the people under a single platform have given a RANCHI CHALO call towards convening the First Conference and Massive Rally on the 22, 23 March 2007. Towards this, a preparatory committee of all the participating organizations and a working committee to convene the conference and rally was also formed in the Anti-Displacement Meet.

Undeclared Emergency in Buddha's Bengal

The Left Front Government's campaign for forcible acquisition of agricultural land has now turned into a full-scale assault on democracy. Even as Singur remains sealed off from the rest of West Bengal by Section 144, armed CPI(M) goons have now unleashed a reign of terror in Nandigram of East Medinipur district. Eleven peasants have been killed so far in the state-sponsored CPI(M)-led mayhem since 6 January midnight.
Contrary to official propaganda and media reports, the Nandigram murders are not a case of clash between the CPI(M) and the Trinamool Congress. Nandigram is represented in the Assembly by CPI MLA Iliyas Ahmed and the peasants killed have mostly been activists of the local Save Agricultural Land Committee from some of the affected villages (Sonachura, Garchakraberia, Jalpai, Tekhali, Bhangaberi, Pankhai, Kunjapur, Kangra) in Khejuri and Nandigram I blocks.
The State Government wants to hand over some 20,000 acres of fertile agricultural land including more than 13,000 acres of multi-crop land to the Salim Group of Indonesia and the Ruia group of India . Notices regarding the land-grab move have been issued by the Haldia Development Authority while the peasants of Nandigram (27 Mouzas of Nandigram Block I) and the local panchayats have been kept in the dark.
This has understandably created a major unrest among the peasantry leading to the January 3 confrontation between the police and the local public. It should be noted that on 6 January afternoon the district administration deceived the local people with a ‘peace meeting' before armed CPI(M) men from other areas of East Medinipur moved into the area and began unleashing terror in connivance with the police.
A six member fact-finding team of our Party headed by veteran leader Sankar Mitra wanted to visit Nandigram on January 4. The team was detained by the police at Tekhali Bazar and all the members including Comrade Mitra and AICCTU leader and lawyer Dibakar Bhattacharya, AISA leaders Malay Tewari and Jitendra Kumar (the latter is a student of Jamia Milia Islamia of Delhi who had been visiting Kolkata) and leading Party activists from the district Bipradas Chatterjee and Netai Mandal have since been remanded to police custody under a host of false charges including arson and even attempt to murder!
The attacks on Nandigram peasants are by no means an isolated local incident. Both in Singur and Nandigram, the attacks on protesting peasants have been carried out at the behest of the CPI(M) state leadership's call to teach the ‘disturbing elements a deserving lesson'.
Senior CPI(M) leader Benoy Konar who is a member of the party's Central Committee and State Secretariat and who heads the party's peasant wing in the state, threatened the people of Nandigram with dire consequences unless they mended their ways and his remarks were widely publicised through the electronic media hours before the mayhem started at Nandigram.
Haldia MP and Haldia Development Authority Chairperson Lakshman Seth has also played no small role in instigating and engineering the attacks on Nandigram so no dissenting voice could be raised against the land-grab campaign.
The CPI(ML) therefore demands a CBI probe into the Nandigram killings and arrest of Benoy Konar and Lakshman Seth for instigating the mayhem. All arrested leaders and activists of the CPI(ML) must be released unconditionally and false charges withdrawn.
The Buddhadeb Bhattacharya government must not be allowed to impose an undeclared Emergency in West Bengal . We also strongly condemn the Chief Minister's statement describing the peasant resistance at Nandigram as a communal conspiracy.

Karnataka: Land Struggle Launched
Applying the path of Telengana-Naxalbari to present concrete conditions, and trying to translate agrarian revolution to reality, with ‘land to the tiller’ slogan as the battle cry, CPI(ML) Karnataka State Committee has decided to spread struggles for land in all the districts where the party is active. As part of these struggles 64 acres of government land occupied by a landlord in Chikmangloor district was occupied by party and KRS volunteers and distributed among landless adivasi and dalit families in the area. Taking it as a good beginning a vigorous campaign was started in different districts along with study of land relations.
In Kudagu district in South Karnataka where land concentration in the hands of plantation owners and landlords are maximum, de-forested government lands are remaining fallow, and where a sizable section of the population are adivasis and other landless peasants, the district committee took out jathas on foot to propagate the land grab agitation in three tahsils. The response was very positive. In Chikmangloor, Shimoga, Raichur, Koppal and Gadag districts also village level campaign has started.
In January party and KRS activists mobilising the masses are going to occupy government lands lying fallow, illegal land in the custody of plantation owners, surplus lands with landlords and agricultural lands remaining uncultivated to start with. In Kudagu district alone village committees are formed in nearby areas to occupy 20,000 acres of government land lying uncultivated.
