Maoists kill three forest guards in Orissa

KalingaTimes CorrespondentDhenkanal: Three forest guards were brutally killed by Maoists while they were on duty near the forests at Kandhar village under Kankadahada block of Dhenkanal district of Orissa early on Thursday.

According to sources, about 15 extremists raided the forest beat station around 3 a.m. and killed the State forest department employees by slitting their throats and crushing their heads with stone. Two other forest guards managed to escape.

The victims have been identified as Ghanshyam Behera, Forester and Kumuda Chandra Samal and Nilamani Mullick, both Forest Guards.

In Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased forest department employees.

The Director General of Police Amarananda Patttanayak told presspersons in that combing operations have been intensified in the area to nab the Maoists. Two companies of Special Operation Group personnel and one company of Central Reserve Police Force were reaching the area to join in the anti-naxal operations.

In another incident that took place in Malkangiri district on January 26, a CRPF Havildar was killed and two Constables were injured when the Maoists caused three clamour blasts in Kalimela area.
