Maoists blast MRO office near Orissa border

Letter says it is in retaliation of the killing of top leader Chandramouli and his wife Karuna in an encounter
VISAKHAPATNAM: Maoists retaliated to the killing of party top leader Wadkapur Chandramouli alias Devanna and his wife Karuna in the agency area on December 27 by blasting the Mandal Revenue Officer's office at Pedabayalu village near the Orissa border on Tuesday night.
Maoist party's east division secretary Jagadeesh and commander of Pedabayalu local guerilla squad Nagesh were reportedly present in the village. This is the second time that the office building has been blasted by the naxalites. In 2004, the old building was blasted and this time a major part of the new building has been destroyed.
Surrounded
According to information, eight armed persons, including two women, went to the MRO office just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday, while 50 other Maoists surrounded the village. MRO J. Dharma Rao, Deputy Tahsildar Raghunath Panigrahy, attenders K. Sadan and S. Prasad, and a helper Lakshmayya, who were sleeping inside the building, were sent out before the building was blasted. Five rooms were damaged and furniture, documents and two computers kept in the rooms were destroyed.
Letter left behind
The Maoists left a letter with the MRO in which Jagadeesh said the encounter in which Chandramouli and Karuna were killed was a fake one and the building was blasted in protest against the killings. He also demanded that the police stop combing operations and alleged that Congress leaders were responsible for the killing of the two leaders. He wanted the people to observe a State-wide bandh on January 10 to protest the December 27 encounter.
After blasting the MRO office, the Maoists had left the village in three jeeps.
