Maoists allege police harassment

PARALAKHEMUNDI : The CPI (Maoist) has decried the recent killing of their leader B Chandramauli in an encounter with the Andhra Pradesh police. While the police continue to claim that Chandramauli was killed, along with his wife, Bijayalaxmi, in an encounter with them, the PUCL and the other associated organisations of the CPI (Maoist) claim that it was a cold blooded murder by the police after capturing the couple. A recent letter signed by one Sunil written in Telugu on a CPI (Maoist) letter pad and sent to a select group of reporters has created another confusion. The latter stated that the two were tortured and then killed in Orissa, after which their bodies were thrown in the deep jungles of Panasapalli in AP. The letter had also a statement by top Naxalite leader Janardhan appealing to the public through the Press about the brutal nature of the police who are arresting and killing innocent people terming them as Maoists. Citing the example of a cancer patient from Jajpur, Nath Pradhan, the letter states that this man was now languishing in Chowdwar jail for no fault of his. The letter says that at present, there are 92 prisoners, who are kept in jails at Berhampur (29), Paralakhemundi (3), R Udayagiri (2), Rayagada (3), Malkangiri (23) and Sambalpur (27). The letter states that the chief minister of both the states are following anti-people policies and are luring in capitalists into their respective states with an intention of grabbing the land of the poor. It announced an Andhra Pradesh bandh on 10 January.
