Chhattisgarh: Four Naxalites shot dead by CRPF

Four Naxalites shot dead by CRPF
Raipur: Four Maoist guerrillas were on Monday shot dead by the Central Reserve Police Force
(CRPF) in a Chhattisgarh forest. According to police, the gun battle between the guerrillas and over 50 CRPF personnel began early morning in the thickly forested Narayanpur area in Bastar region, 510 km from Raipur, a hotbed of Maoist militancy for three decades. "The CRPF backed by the state police busted the rebel hideout and shot dead four senior Maoists," Inspector General Girdhari Nayak said over telephone.
He added that security forces recovered the bodies and some weapons from the site. A major combing operation has been launched to nab the dozens of guerrillas who escaped into the forest. Chhattisgarh is one of the worst affected of India's 13 Maoist hit states. Police say that about 400 people, including 321 civilians, were killed in 2006 in Maoist related violence.
